Committing to Marine Conservation
We integrate environmental initiatives that involve us and our guests in the conservation of the Turneffe Atoll and its reefs. Staffing former researchers and environmental enthusiasts, and sharing our initiatives and values with our guests, we operate with a deep-seated respect for the sea and its marine life.
Our Environmental Initiatives

TASA Ranger Outpost
We host three rangers from the Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association (TASA), whose conservation efforts curtail illegal fishing, fishing methods and undersized catch.

Green Globe Certification
We’re certified with Green Globe, the global certification for sustainable tourism with indicators across environmental, social, economic, cultural and managerial categories.

REEF Membership
We’re a member of the Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF), which seeks to conserve marine life by educating, enlisting and enabling divers to become active ocean stewards.

Reef Education
In an effort to minimize damage to our reefs, our licensed guides educate divers and snorkelers about reef safety, from wearing reef-safe sunscreen to safely interacting with marine life.

Lionfish Hunting
Our licensed guides educate snorkelers about lionfish and, with every snorkeling excursion, our guides hunt the invasive species to mitigate their impact on marine life.

Catch & Release Fishing
In an effort to protect the Turneffe Atoll’s fish population, as well as the livelihood of our local fishermen, our fishing program is catch and release, operating all day.

Energy Generation & Conservation
We power our electricity with generators and heat our water with solar power, utilize low-flow shower heads and saltwater toilet water and water our garden with recycled water via drip irrigation.

Food Sourcing
We source ingredients seasonally, including fish from our local fishermen. We hunt lionfish for dinner and grow our own herbs—like mint for our mojitos.
